What happened
Mountain West Food Group is recalling about 2,855 pounds of raw ground beef sold as "Forward Farms Grass-Fed Ground Beef" in 16-oz vacuum-sealed packages because it may be contaminated with E. coli O26. The product was made on Dec. 16, 2025 and has a "use or freeze by" date of 01/13/26 and establishment number EST 2083 printed on the package. It was shipped to distributors in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Washington for retail sale. No illnesses have been confirmed so far. E. coli O26 can cause diarrhea (sometimes bloody) and vomiting, and in rare cases a serious kidney condition called HUS, especially in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
