Privacy & terms.
Short, because there is not much to say. No accounts, one cookie, no ads, two forms. The details are below, in order of how much they could possibly matter to you.
Privacy
No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no password, profile, or login history to lose.
One cookie. The site sets a single cookie, named region, holding a US state code so the list can show what was sold near you. It lasts one year. Its first value comes from the region Cloudflare derives from your IP address, or from the state you pick on the home page. Pick a different state, or "All states," to overwrite it at any time. Delete it and the site starts over from your IP's region. It is sent only to this site and used for nothing else.
Analytics. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless and reports aggregate counts: pages viewed, countries, browsers. It does not build a profile of you, and we could not pick you out of it if we tried. There is no other analytics, tracking pixel, or advertising script on this site.
Fonts. The typefaces load from Google Fonts, so your browser requests them from Google when a page loads. That request is covered by Google's privacy policy, not ours; we receive nothing from it.
Error reports. When you report an error we store what you typed, the incident it refers to, the time, and an email address if you chose to give one. A copy is emailed to us through Resend, our email provider, so we see it quickly. The address is used only to reply to you about that report. Neither the message nor the address is ever published: the corrections log shows only what we changed. Submissions that look automated are discarded without being stored.
Newsletter. If you sign up for the weekly circular we store the email address you typed (lowercased), the state and allergens you picked, the time you signed up, and two random tokens: one that confirms the address, one that unsubscribes it. Nothing is sent until you click the confirmation link, so an address that never confirms never hears from us. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link that works on the first click and every click after; unsubscribing stops the mail at once and the row is kept only so we never mail that address by mistake. The emails go out through Resend, our email provider. The address is used for the circular and the alerts you asked for and for nothing else: never sold, shared, rented, or shown to anyone.
Server logs. Cloudflare hosts the site and keeps request logs (IP address, page requested, time) briefly, under its own retention policy. We look at them only to debug the site.
Money. No ads. No selling or sharing of data. No money from anyone who makes, sells, or lobbies for food. If a "keep the lights on" link appears in the footer, it goes to a third-party donation page with its own privacy policy; this site never handles payments.
Links out. Every incident links to the government or retailer notice it came from, and the share buttons open X, Bluesky, Threads, Reddit, or your own email app. Once you leave, their policies apply, not this one.
Terms
What this site is. An aggregator of public food safety notices from government agencies, retailers, and international regulators, rewritten in plain English, with a link to every source.
What it is not. It does not test food. It is not medical advice, legal advice, or a substitute for the official notice. If you think you have eaten something on this list and feel unwell, call a doctor. If you are a business deciding what to do about a recall, read the agency's notice, not ours.
It can be wrong. Notices are read by software and checked by people, and both make mistakes. Always confirm with the linked source before acting on anything here. When we are wrong, we correct it within 24 hours of being told, and every correction is logged on the corrections page.
Contact. Use the report-an-error form for errors, questions, and takedown requests alike. It reaches us.
Changes. This page changes when the site does. Last reviewed September 2, 2026.
